Together with Bath & North East Somerset Council, we are pleased to offer the following courses free of charge for EMA leaders in primary and secondary schools in Bath & North East Somerset.

Supporting the language development of pupils new to English:
This session will explore current pedagogy and methodology for supporting pupils with English as an additional language (EAL). Course presenters will demonstrate useful approaches and resources as well as giving participants a firm grasp of the key principles needed to ensure the rapid and successful progress of EAL pupils.

EMA leaders network meetings: Session 1

Location: St Saviour’s Infant School, Spring Lane, Larkhall, Bath, BA1 6NY

In this half-day networking meeting for new and established EMA leaders in primary and secondary schools we explore EMA work within the OFSTED framework.

The session will include dissemination of new materials, resources and examples of national and local good practice as well as opportunities for networking with fellow professionals working with vulnerable groups in school.

Supporting the achievement of black heritage pupils:

Location: Venue TBC

This half-day training course focuses on supporting staff in meeting the needs of black and mixed heritage pupils.

This course will allow participants to explore:

  • Issues influencing the attainment of black and mixed heritage pupils in B&NES schools
  • Local and national good practice
  • Effective intervention to raise expectations and aspirations
  • The importance of parental involvement
  • Ways of disseminating an anti-racist, inclusive curriculum to support the spiritual, moral and cultural development of all pupils
